Smithbridge Rd Park, Concord Township, Pennsylvania
Do you love wild birds? Research shows that in addition to bringing us joy, birds and birding itself can offer support to our mental and physical health.
We’ll explore Smithbridge Road Park’s winding trails in search of an array of birds, covering multiple habitats, hoping to encounter both year-round residents and migratory species who spend time within the park in early April.
Techniques and prompts will accompany the gently guided walk, which can enhance our observation skills, deepening our experiences with wild birds around us. This in turn amplifies the positive benefits birds provide to our overall wellbeing.
Accessibility information: This will be a slow-paced walk on wide and flat paved and unpaved trails, where we might sometimes stand for short periods of time as we observe birds. On-site indoor restrooms adjacent to parking area.
What to bring: Dress for the elements, consider layers, sturdy shoes, and prioritize sun protection (hats, sunscreen, etc.). If you have a nature journal, bring it along.
Some binoculars will be available from your guide in limited numbers.
About your guide: Led by Holly Merker, professional birding guide, certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide, and Nature-based Wellness Specialist.
